Inspiration
We found inspiration from the ==Pimco Challenge== to make an online financial literacy tool for all age groups. Money Matters fulfills that by offering information on a range of financial topics for people at all levels of understanding.
What it does
Money Matters connects users to existing online financial education resources in one convenient hub. Our current site has videos on topics including Retirement Savings, The Stock Market, Interest, and The emergence of Capitalism. There is something to learn for everyone, regardless of your prior financial knowledge.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, & JS to build the infrastructure of the site itself. We used MongoDB on the backend to create and store user profile information. We sourced videos from youtube to include on our site that provided the information that is needed in the course.
Challenges we ran into
Prior to this, we did not have any experience using MongoDB so we had a bit of a learning curve. Additionally, routing through Node.js was new material for us and required some studying.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that the site has a basic level of functionality and fulfills its primary purpose, we also were able to add some extra visual aspects including Dark Mode and some basic animations transferring between pages.
What we learned
We learned about MongoDB and Node.js, neither of which did we have any prior experience with.
What's next for Money Matters
We will continue to build out site functionality and offered courses.
