Inspiration

Budgeting and tracking expenses is widely known as one of the first basic steps for anyone to take control of their finances and build wealth. Thus, the inspiration for Money Manager came from a need to conveniently keep track of one's personal finances, especially for college students.

What it does

The money manager app is a cross-platform mobile app that allows students to manage their income and expenses. With Money Manager, you can track where every penny goes, your net worth, student loans, credit cards, and much more.

How we built it

Money Manager was built with React Native, TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, Git, GitHub, and Expo CLI. We held weekly sprints and weekly meetings to keep development a smooth process.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was the scope of our project. We unfortunately ran our of time to implement all of the features that we wanted. On top of that, we did not have enough time to rigorously test our app. Because of this, there are quite a few bugs throughout the app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a fully-fledged, cross-platform mobile app! It runs perfectly fine on both our physical phones and emulators. Also, we all have gained vast knowledge of the React Native framework and we got to see first-hand what it takes to make a mobile app. Moreover, we had a lot of fun and good times doing it! Although we did not finish everything that we wanted to do, and the fact that our app has a lot more room to develop, we are all extremely proud of the work we did accomplish in such a short amount of time.

What we learned

We learned how to make a cross-platform mobile app, several different libraries from within the React Native framework, how to work as a team, our individual strengths and weaknesses, object-oriented programming concepts, team communication, and sprint methodology.

What's next for Money Manager App

In the future, we hope to implement a light theme and a dark theme, color styles, a way to edit your existing account names, and a way to track investments such as cryptocurrencies, stocks, bonds, real estate, etc. Moreover, we would like to heavily test the app, iron out bugs, and release it on both the apple app store and the google play store!
