Inspiration
We came up with the idea based on one of the biggest challenges that we dealt with as college students - money. We wanted to create something that promotes financial literacy throughout college and beyond.
What it does
The website allows users to navigate through different topics they may want to learn about concerning financial aid, different loan types, scholarships, and different programs available on campus.
How we built it
We all used HTML, CSS and Javascript. We separated the project by parts and helped each other throughout.
Challenges we ran into
One of our challenges was brushing up on our HTML and CSS skills while learning some javascript. Our curriculum at school is centered around Java; so whatever we know about other languages was learned outside of class.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have come together to create something we are all proud of. We communicated effectively and delivered a website that we are proud of. Team work really makes the dream work
What we learned
We learned about time management and little bit of delegation, as neither of us have ever led a Hack-a-thon team. We were also able to sharpen our HTML and CSS skills. Another cool thing was looking into APIs for potential use.
What's next for Money J^2A^2M
One thing we tried to implement now, but did not quite work, was a chatroom for students to contact Financial Aid advisors for quick questions. They would be able to have a quick and private text chat with current advisors. We even thought about using a bot for the chatroom instead, both are viable options. We would also like to make the website consistent on all webpages, some use bootstrap where others don't; the formatting is a little off. We have considered continuing this project to actually help the students at New Paltz because this something that is useful and practical.
