Inspiration

We love cooking β€” but we hate typing recipes.

Every time we found a good dish on social media, in a cookbook, or at a restaurant, we either forgot it, lost the screenshot, or never actually cooked it. Recipes are everywhere, but they’re trapped in images, videos, and pages.

Recado was born from one question:
What if any food could instantly become a recipe?

What it does

Recado turns food into recipes.

Users can:

  • πŸ“Έ Snap a food photo β†’ Recado deconstructs the dish into ingredients and steps
  • πŸŽ₯ Paste a cooking video link β†’ Recado extracts the full recipe from the video
  • πŸ“– Scan cookbook pages β†’ Recado reads and saves them digitally

Then with one tap:

  • πŸ›’ Add ingredients to a grocery list
  • βœ… Check items off while shopping
  • πŸ“‚ Save recipes in a personal vault

All inside a clean, playful, modern app.

How we built it

  • Mobile App: Flutter
  • AI Vision & OCR: Image recognition + text extraction
  • Video Parsing: Speech + scene analysis
  • Backend: API + cloud storage
  • Design: Minimalist + playful UI with animated scan feedback

We built Recado as a lean MVP focused on:
input β†’ recipe β†’ grocery list.

Challenges we ran into

  • Converting messy real-world data into clean recipes
  • Extracting steps from unstructured text and speech
  • Balancing AI accuracy with speed
  • Designing something magical but still simple

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

  • Built a working multi-input recipe scanner
  • Created a smart grocery list flow
  • Designed a food deconstruction animation
  • Turned chaos into a clean cooking experience

What we learned

  • Users want less typing, not more features
  • Visual feedback builds trust in AI
  • Simplicity beats complexity in cooking tools
  • Grocery lists are just as important as recipes

What’s next for Recado: Recipe & Food Scanner

  • Recipe editing & personalization
  • Nutrition & calorie breakdown
  • Meal planning & weekly menus
  • Family sharing
  • Smart pantry tracking

Recado is not just a recipe app.
It’s a bridge between the food you see and the food you make. 🍳πŸ₯‘
