Inspiration: We were inspired by our lack of knowledge in finance and our experience taking JP’s financial literacy classes. We all collectively, along with many of our classmates, felt that the financial literacy classes were extremely boring. This made it much harder to focus on the lessons and information being taught, which posed a huge concern for us. Finance is a crucial part of our daily lives, so it is incredibly important to understand the concept and its details as a whole.
What it does: it teaches students the basics of economics, how to invest, what bank accounts are while allowing them to have a fun interactive experience on the game. They are able to read quick notes instead of reading long textbooks and then apply their knowledge in fun interactive activities. This way students are not left falling asleep in class and instead they are able to learn some crucial life knowledge
How we built it
We built this website using Repl.it’s API for HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. To make the visual assets, we utilized Procreate and drew the visuals by hand. To cover more areas for this project, we divided the roles equally among each group member. Some tackled the HTML, some tackled the CSS, and some tackled the JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
While planning our game we had a lot of great ideas but we were unsure on ways to execute it as we didn’t have as much experience in the aspects we wanted to accomplish. But we were able to overcome this by using online resources to our advantage, and also by focusing on the aspects of the game which we could code.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the CSS formatting that we were able to achieve in a limited amount of time. We were able to draw cute visuals which allowed the game to be welcoming and inviting since the topic of finance can be at first very scary and challenging. Furthermore we are proud of the fact that we were able to execute our idea in just 2 days since most of us didn’t know much HTML and CSS prior to this competition. We were able to learn off of google and youtube and create a fullfunctioning game.
What we learned
We learning a lot of CSS concepts, as well as how to work collaboratively in a group for one project. We were effectively able to divide the work based on everyones strengths and weaknesses. We learned how a lot of the formatting for our websites through research on the internet as well as a lot of trial and error.
What's next for Money Bunny
Our future plans would be to include even more lessons in the app, and include mini assessments as a way to earn money. Also being able to expand on our “interactive learning” area and allowing the user to simulate investing in stocks so that they could also learn how to invest is another one of our plans. We would develop it so that the user could use the money they earn to invest in stocks, which prices would change everyday and therefore simulate the real-life experience.
