Inspiration

The alarming rate of financial losses among young individuals due to stock market scams and poor financial literacy inspired us to create Money Buddy. We aim to provide an engaging and practical solution that empowers college students and young adults to make informed financial decisions. With a focus on real-life scenarios, cultural relevance, and gamification, Money Buddy is designed to bridge the gap between knowledge and action in personal finance.

What it does

Money Buddy is a 2D web-based simulation game that puts players in the shoes of Vikram Varma, a first-year college student navigating financial challenges. Players make decisions about part-time jobs, spending, saving, and investing while learning critical lessons about managing finances. The game also addresses local financial challenges, such as stock market scams and budgeting in an Indian context, through interactive and relatable scenarios.

How we built it

We used:

Frontend: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the user interface. Game Framework: Phaser.js for creating immersive 2D gameplay. Graphics and Animations: PixiJS for rendering custom graphics and animations. Backend: [Insert Backend Choice, e.g., Node.js, Firebase] for saving player progress and hosting game data. Tools: Visual Studio Code for development and GitHub for version control. The game integrates real-world financial scenarios into a dynamic and educational storyline, providing players with an engaging and practical learning experience.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing Learning and Fun: Ensuring that the game remains both educational and entertaining. Realistic Scenarios: Creating relatable financial scenarios specific to the Indian context. Technical Issues: Optimizing performance for a smooth experience across devices and integrating advanced rendering effects.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully integrating financial education into an engaging game format. Designing a culturally relevant and user-friendly interface. Building a scalable and lightweight web-based game accessible to a wide audience. Crafting a narrative that resonates with young players, encouraging them to make better financial decisions.
