Inspiration
Often times people make impulse purchases that they later regret. Mint and other apps exist to help visualize where your money is going, but often doesn't help in preventing these purchases until it's too late.
What it does
We made MVPs for both Android and the iOS platform. The application keeps track of users spending habits in different categories, and utilizes the Pebble Smart watch to give a gentle haptic reminder when near these "hotspots" to remember why you set the budget in the first place.
How we built it
Worked with the Pebble and Capital One APIs for working with haptic feedback and financial datasets. Also used various data vizualization tools in both Swift and Java to display relevant financial data.
Challenges we ran into
Initial unfimiliarity and indecisiveness in determining which project idea to pursue. Majority of members had little to no experience working with Pebble or Android.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Able to get a MVP out that serves as a proof of concept for the idea, even though some kinks definetley need to be ironed out.
What we learned
We were able to get a deeper appreciation of Android and iOS as we waded through uncharted territory throughout the weekend. Gained a intuitive understanding with common programming concepts like Callback functions and asynchrounous process.
What's next for Money Angel
We hope to continue iterating over the product in future revisions.
