Inspiration

We saw the challenges about financials and financial literacy, and we made a connection to the app Fetch. Fetch allows users to scan receipts in exchange for points, which can be used to get gift cards to various retailers. This combined with the uprising of AI inspired Monee.

What it does

Monee is a financial literacy app that encourages smart saving habits through challenges and rewards. It tracks user-inputted transactions (via CSV) and determines whether the user is completing challenges or not. Monee also has a built-in AI Chatbot specifically for financial advice. Overall, Monee was created to help those who need help in the financial literacy department, but it could be useful to anyone.

How we built it

We split into frontend and backend at the start. Frontend made the website and deployed it, while backend did the databasing and API tasks. We then brought it together as seamlessly as possible, creating Monee.

Challenges we ran into

Implementing the AI chat bot was very difficult. Getting it integrated smoothly was not an easy task, so it took up a lot of our time. It is not perfect yet, but it works well enough. It also did not help that none of us had worked with APIs before.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The overall UI on the website is what we're most proud of. We spent a lot of time making it as sleek and seamless as possible. It is definitely our pride and joy.

What we learned

GitHub is really useful. APIs can also be very useful, but can also be very frustrating. We also learned about the different JavaScript extensions and frameworks. We also learned a little bit about servers.

What's next for Monee

We will continue to polish the site and implement full account support via a server/database, since right now the sign in and create account elements are simply placeholders. This will also allow for transaction storage.
