Inspiration
Our participation in the ACM Datathon served as a catalyst for our exploration of data analysis. The competition not only inspired us to engage with real-world data but also motivated us to tackle complex problems related to environmental issues, specifically the decline of the monarch population. The challenge of linking this decline to pesticide usage provided a meaningful context for our efforts.
Challenges we ran into
This was our first time ever dealing with data and it took us some time to learn how to deal with the data and be able to separate and extract relevant information from it. Using mathematical functions in conjunction with programming logic enabled us to analyze patterns and draw meaningful insights from the data. This integration enhanced our understanding of how to leverage quantitative methods to solve complex problems and made the data analysis process more systematic and efficient.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Considering that we had no prior experience in the field, we learned a great deal about the various roles and responsibilities of a data analyst. We successfully extracted data for Texas and Alabama, and we also gathered and analyzed relevant data for the remaining states. This comprehensive approach allowed us to deepen our understanding of the complexity of data analysis.
What we learned
Throughout the project, we gained valuable insights into the data analysis process, and we also learned the importance of communication in navigating challenges and helping each other out in each part of the project towards a common goal.
