Inspiration
Our Inspiration was our mother and grandmothers who went through so much trouble to help bring us into this world and keep us healthy and alive while also trying to take care of themselves. After hearing the stories of their struggles, it dawned on us to make an app that can help mothers like ours feel more comfortable and stronger by talking to other mothers that face the same problems as they do.
What it does
Our app connects mothers and helps make friends to help one another take the steps needed to return to their healthy, and lively self. It gives reminders throughout the day to take pills, call a friend, or just to breathe. We know mothers are working hard everyday, taking care of their kids and working hard to keep their life together at the same time. So we thought of making an app to help make it easier.
How we built it
We built our app using code.org and block coding.
Challenges we ran into
The first challenge we ran into was trying to brainstorm an idea that wasn’t already overly used. Once we think of an idea, we can take a lot of things under consideration when making our design to make it the most accessible and user friendly. We also got some roadblocks when writing our code as we had some trouble with traversing our functions. But overall, we were able to problem solve and complete our project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of finishing our project in less than 24 hours. We are proud that we made an app with an impactful meaning that can potentially help millions of mothers around the world who struggle with postpartum stress and guilt. It lightens their shoulders and lets them know that they are not alone in this world. The fact that our app helps give them gentle reminders to take care of themselves, fills our hearts with joy.
What we learned
We learned a great deal of things from a benign part of this hackathon project. But the main point that we took away is that coding can change the world in ways we haven’t thought of before. Because a doctor, physically stitching people up is not the only way we can help people. Coding an app, a website, an AI, and multiple other things can change people’s everyday lives. We learned to never give up and keep going even when big hurdles come our way, because what is on the other side is worth fighting for.
What's next for Momturnity
We hope that our app reaches a larger audience, as of right now its applicable for those in India and the United States.
