MomSave AI
Inspiration The inspiration for MomSave AI came from a simple but powerful observation: most personal finance tools are built for numbers, not for people and especially not for mothers.
Moms make dozens of financial decisions every single day: grocery choices, meal planning, subscriptions, household spending. These decisions are small on their own, but together they shape a family’s financial future. Yet existing apps often expect users to learn budgeting systems, study charts, or invest hours of time — something many moms simply don’t have.
We wanted to build something different. Instead of asking moms to work harder at saving money, we asked: What if technology quietly worked for them?
That question became the foundation of MomSave AI.
What it does
MomSave AI is an AI-powered money coaching app designed specifically for moms.
It helps users save money in a practical, realistic way by focusing on everyday decisions rather than complex financial planning. The app:
Personalizes guidance using a short onboarding flow
Provides actionable, expert-backed saving tips
Uses AI to analyze grocery receipts and highlight savings opportunities
Generates budget aware weekly meal plans to reduce food waste
Tracks progress, lifetime savings, and achievements
Sends smart notifications with cheaper alternatives at the right time
Encourages family participation to make saving a shared habit
The goal is simple: help moms save real money without adding stress or guilt.
How we built it
MomSave AI was built as a cross platform mobile application using React Native with Expo, allowing a single codebase for both iOS and Android.
The architecture is modular and feature-driven, with clear separation between UI, business logic, and integrations. AI is used as a decision support layer, generating insights that are always translated into clear, actionable guidance for users.
For monetization, we integrated RevenueCat using the react-native-purchases SDK, enabling secure and scalable in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat manages product offerings, free trials, entitlements, and cross-platform billing edge cases, allowing us to focus on product experience rather than payment complexity.
Every technical decision was guided by one principle: the technology should feel invisible to the user.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was balancing power and simplicity.
AI can easily overwhelm users with too much information. We had to carefully design how insights are presented so they feel supportive rather than intimidating.
Another challenge was designing for emotional trust. Since the app relates to family finances, we had to be intentional about transparency, data control, and tone avoiding anything that could feel judgmental or pushy.
Finally, integrating subscriptions in a way that felt fair and pressure-free required thoughtful UX decisions, especially around trials, upgrades, and feature gating.
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
Building a finance app that feels empathetic, not intimidating
Creating AI features that deliver measurable, real-world savings
Designing a subscription flow that emphasizes value over pressure
Turning saving money into a positive habit, not a burden
Completing a production-ready, scalable app within a hackathon scope
Most importantly, we’re proud that MomSave AI feels like something a real mom would actually want to use.
What we learned
We learned that good financial technology is not about more features it’s about better guidance.
We also learned that emotional design matters just as much as technical design. When users feel supported, they are far more likely to stay consistent and engaged.
From a technical perspective, we gained deeper experience building AI-assisted mobile products, managing subscriptions at scale, and designing systems that prioritize trust and reliability.
What’s next for MomSave AI
Looking ahead, we plan to:
Refine AI personalization based on long term behavior
Expand family collaboration features
Introduce regional savings insights
Explore deeper integrations with household planning tools
Continue improving accessibility and inclusivity
Our long-term vision is for MomSave AI to become a quiet, trusted companion for moms one that helps them feel confident, capable, and in control of their financial journey.
MomSave AI isn’t about spending less. It’s about supporting the people who manage everything else.
