Inspiration

Over time, we often encounter young women who are pregnant and unable to continue their education. This is a very prevalent example of gender inequality. Why can't young pregnant women have the same right as everyone else to complete their education? Do we want to perpetuate the social stigma that women who get pregnant earlier have no future and are morally flawed?

What it does

This app provides an all-in-one package where it provides academic and mental support for teen moms who are currently striving. Users will be able to find accredited courses, workshops and get legit certifications. If they have any issues, the tutors are available to help them. They can also connect with fellow teen moms to share their experiences. Our overall goal is to provide them with mental and academic assistance. As a result, they will feel more worthy and have a brighter future!

How we built it

We built Momme using numerous programming languages, such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We also embedded Vue Framework for some of the features. Everything was done in Visual Studio Code, and then compiled and launched using Glitch.

Challenges we ran into

We faced a few challenges while building this website. First, creating a side navigation bar was something new, considering that we were more familiar with creating a top navigation bar. It was quite challenging at first but we managed to make it work after going through numerous resources. We also had problems with making the website responsive. For better user experience, we wanted our web application to have perfect layouts despite running it on different platforms. We made that happen by adding the @media rule in the CSS.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of getting our website done within less than a week, having learned so many new things about the programming languages that we used. We also just got into a new framework called Vue, and we're grateful to be able to implement some elements in the project. In addition, we're proud to be able to get to know more about each other, such as our likes and dislikes in coding and how we managed to compromise (e.g. having different coding styles or formatting).

What we learned

We learned how to communicate effectively with each other to solve the challenges faced. We also learned how to design and build a website that is user-centered to provide our target users with the best user experience.

What's next for Momme

We hope to develop a back-end system to save the users' account. This would ease them in connecting with other users and create deeper bonds. They will be able to reply directly in the discussion forum without having to send emails. Overall, we hope that our web app can give future moms the motivation and support that they need, ensuring them that they are not alone in the journey.
