Inspiration
The U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate among high-income countries (~22–23 deaths per 100,000 live births vs. 7–10 in peer nations). Since 2000, the U.S. is one of only seven countries where maternal mortality has increased, despite global declines. Black women experience 50+ deaths per 100,000 births nearly 3× the rate of white women, regardless of income or education. Over 80% of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable. Many deaths occur weeks after delivery, highlighting gaps in postpartum care.
