Inspiration
Modern life is overwhelmingly chaotic. Traditional productivity tools treat users like machines, focusing purely on task execution while often ignoring the emotional and cognitive burden behind daily responsibilities.
I noticed that when people are most stressed, they don't need another rigid to-do list—they need clarity, emotional support, and a gentle path back to productivity. This inspired me to build MomentumOS: an AI-powered productivity platform that understands not only what users need to do, but also how they feel while doing it.
My goal was to create something that feels less like a task manager and more like an emotionally intelligent companion that helps users navigate overwhelm with structure, empathy, and motivation.
What it does
MomentumOS is an AI-powered productivity platform designed specifically for people experiencing cognitive overload.
The platform allows users to freely voice or text-dump their thoughts, worries, ideas, and responsibilities without needing to organize them first.
Key features include:
Emotionally Intelligent Brain Dump
Users can express everything on their mind through natural language. AI analyzes both the actionable tasks and the emotional signals within the input, generating a personalized Overwhelm Meter score.
Recovery Protocol & Sanctuary Mode
When the Overwhelm Meter exceeds certain thresholds, MomentumOS automatically activates a calming Sanctuary Mode experience. The system provides supportive guidance, bite-sized recovery actions, and motivational reinforcement to help users regain control.
Multi-Variable Priority Scoring
Tasks are prioritized using more than just deadlines. MomentumOS considers urgency, importance, and emotional weight to generate realistic and supportive action plans.
Gamified Resilience System
Users earn resilience badges and progress through achievement milestones as they consistently manage tasks and reduce overwhelm. The badge lifecycle includes locked, eligible, and claimed states, creating an engaging sense of progression.
How I built it
I built MomentumOS using a modern full-stack architecture.
Frontend
- React
- TypeScript
- Responsive UI architecture
- Glassmorphism-inspired design system
- Interactive visualizations and animated components
Backend
- Node.js
- Express.js
- MongoDB
AI Integration
I integrated Google's Gemini API as the intelligence layer behind the platform. Through carefully engineered prompts, Gemini extracts structured tasks, analyzes emotional context, calculates overwhelm levels, and generates supportive productivity recommendations.
A major focus of development was creating a seamless flow from unstructured emotional input to actionable, organized outputs.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was translating abstract concepts such as cognitive overload, emotional weight, and stress into quantifiable data that could drive meaningful actions within the platform.
Prompt engineering required significant experimentation to ensure AI responses felt supportive and empathetic rather than robotic or generic.
Another challenge was designing the Overwhelm Meter and visual recovery experience while maintaining performance across devices. Building a highly aesthetic interface with responsive layouts, smooth animations, and dynamic visual feedback required careful optimization and extensive testing.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The accomplishment I am most proud of is the Brain Dump → Recovery Protocol pipeline.
Watching unstructured thoughts transform into prioritized tasks, emotional insights, and supportive recovery recommendations demonstrates the core vision behind MomentumOS.
I am also proud of creating a polished user experience that combines productivity, emotional awareness, and gamification into a cohesive platform rather than treating them as separate features.
Beyond functionality, I successfully built a visually engaging interface that users can comfortably interact with during moments of stress and overwhelm.
What I learned
This project taught me that AI can be used for far more than automation—it can become a tool for emotional support and cognitive organization when designed thoughtfully.
I learned valuable lessons in:
- Prompt engineering for structured AI outputs
- Full-stack application architecture
- Complex state management
- UX design for emotional experiences
- Responsive frontend development
- Designing gamification systems that encourage healthy habits
Most importantly, I learned how critical user experience is when building products intended to support mental well-being.
What's next for MomentumOS
My long-term vision is to evolve MomentumOS into a proactive mental wellness and productivity operating system.
Future plans include:
- Voice-first brain dumping
- Smartwatch integration for heart rate and sleep monitoring
- Predictive overwhelm detection
- AI-powered productivity coaching
- Advanced emotional trend analytics
- Personalized productivity profiles
- Collaborative support circles
- Mobile application support
Ultimately, I want MomentumOS to help people transform mental chaos into clarity, confidence, and sustainable momentum.
