Inspiration & What it does

Many social media apps encourage shallow relationships, not the deep connection and strong empathy of your close people. Therefore, we come up with a social media apps with a treasure-hunting-like feature that you might find some aspects of your close friends and family in some unexpected locations you will visit. Not like most social media apps, there is no showing off (ex: bragging on instagram), and there are no followers, following shown in the social media app. And We believe that it can deepen the relationship between friends discovering very memorable moments of your closest people.

How we built it

We used a framework called Tauri, which lets developers create native apps (mobile & desktop) using web frontend tech stack and results in efficient and lightweight program bundle. We chose SolidJS as a Frontend framework, which is intuitive, efficient, and lightweight alternative of React. For styling we used TailwindCSS which lets you cut the time of creating separate styling files. For Backend/ DB we chose to use Supabase which is well known as an open source version of Firebase.

Challenges we ran into

  • resolving the under-explained HERE map api (specifically the value types)
  • figuring out a mobile camera api plugin that does not exist yet in the Tauri framework
  • Lack of groupmembers
  • one of the two team members is a complete beginner; learned a lot!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Intuitive UI
  • Good concept of the app service ## What we learned

What's next for Momento

  • "Share to other apps" feature
  • Background process & near spot notification
