Inspiration

Now that everyone has gone their separate ways after high school, staying in touch with old friends isn't as easy anymore. Even with so many ways to stay connected, it's become rare to share the little, everyday moments that aren't important enough to be a post on Instagram or a reason to call. Dumpy allows us to highlight these small moments and is inspired by the simpler days in grade school, where we passed notes and secretly wrote on the classroom boards.

What it does

Dumpy helps friends stay connected in a simple, fun, focused, but also slightly chaotic way. No doomscrolling here! Users have the option of posting messages, pictures, voice notes, and drawings to a communal bulletin board. They can also give each other quests to complete. These quests may be motivational or just help spice up life. Users have complete control on what vibes they want to acheive for their boards!

How we built it

This project was designed using Figma and built with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.

Challenges we ran into

  • Building an aesthetically pleasing UI from scratch is very difficult, and tedious.
  • It's our first time designing and coding a webpage, so we had to learn on the go

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Our design is pretty and clean!
  • A!! working feature!

What we learned

  • A lot about frontend and it's different frameworks
  • Formatting is hard.
  • Good things take time.

What's next for Dumpy

  • Turning Dumpy into a mobile app would increase convenience and usability, especially when adding photos
  • Widgets for tablets and desktop
  • More media choices (Spotify, video, YouTube)
  • Replies and reactions
  • Dark mode
  • Post sorting function with AI
  • Making it actually work :')
