InspirationDuring Advertising Week NY, we noticed a disconnect: billions are spent on video content creation, yet ad placement largely relies on keywords and manual tagging – methods that don't truly understand what’s happening on screen. We asked ourselves: What if ads could find the perfect moment in a video, automatically? This sparked the idea for Moment Matcher.

What it doesMoment Matcher is an intelligent ad-matching engine that analyzes video content to identify moments aligned with brand themes and campaign goals. Using TwelveLabs’ video understanding API, it detects scene context, tone, and emotion, turning every video into a canvas for context-aware storytelling.

How we built it

We leveraged the power of TwelveLabs' video understanding API to analyze videos and extract key information about each moment. This data is then used to match ads with relevant scenes, ensuring greater alignment between creative content and ad placement. We quickly prototyped this concept into a working demo during the hackathon.

Challenges we ran into

Time was our biggest constraint! Integrating a new API and building a functional prototype within the limited timeframe required rapid learning and focused execution. Ensuring accurate scene detection and relevance matching also presented initial hurdles, requiring fine-tuning of parameters.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully built a working demo showcasing the potential of AI-powered ad placement! We demonstrated how Moment Matcher can move beyond keyword-based targeting to deliver more relevant and engaging advertising experiences.

What we learned

This hackathon reinforced the power of generative AI in transforming traditional industries like advertising. We gained valuable experience with video understanding APIs and the importance of context in creating impactful campaigns. We also learned how quickly a team can iterate and build something meaningful under pressure!

What's next for Moment Matcher

We envision expanding Moment Matcher to support more granular targeting options, integrating with various ad platforms, and developing a user-friendly interface for advertisers. Ultimately, we want to reimagine how the advertising ecosystem values context in the age of generative AI and create measurable lift for advertisers through truly relevant placements.
