Inspiration
Single Mothers are one of the most disadvantaged group in the US as well as the world. According to recent statistics nearly 40% of single mother households live in poverty in the US. For such families it is harder to hire help/ support staff due to the lack of income. Our aim is to build an application that creates a support system for such mothers and parents in general. It is always hard to trust your child with a new person but it gets a little easier when you know when the person themself is a parent. We aim to build a platform that runs on community trust that is catered to the needs of the modern parent on the go.
What it does
It is a platform that offers 3 categories of help (Babysitting, Carpool, Tasks/Services) that can bartered between parents for free of charge. *Using the web app a parent can accept someone's offer to help so long as they offer help in one of the categories in return, it need not be a one to one barter but rather if you help me I promise to help someone else who could use it. *Parents can also put up requests asking for help with specific tasks for others to respond to.
How we built it
Developed an UI framework with HTML and CSS for a flexible framework design.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges we ran into is in the collaboration space, it took some getting used to incorporating each others changes and working on the same problem together. Another challenge was linking the domain to the website, due DNS server bottleneck.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are most proud of the space we have created for single parents and that we were able to contribute through this hackathon.
What's next for Momblebee
Momblebee is an innovative platform that was a huge potential. With an open space for expansion, Momblebee can be extended to professionals who can contribute their skill sets and help mothers achieve their goals. We also aimed to partner up with schools, clubs, and other facilities that can support and help the community grow and truly become a space that pushes single parents to achieve their best while ensuring their loved ones are in good hands.
