MOM - My Own Medic
Inspiration
Thousands suffer from medication errors, misdiagnosis, and preventable health risks due to a lack of real-time information. Our team has personally experienced the devastating impact of misdiagnosis and incorrect medications. We wanted to bridge the gap between doctors and patients by creating an AI-powered medical assistant that ensures informed decisions, prevents errors, and promotes proactive health management.
What It Does
MOM is an AI-driven personal medical assistant that:
- Tracks patient health records (EHR).
- Validates medications based on medical history and allergies.
- Predicts long-term health risks and flags abnormal trends.
- Provides dietary recommendations based on medications, allergies, and location.
- Assists in doctor visits by summarizing key discussion points.
- Alerts emergency contacts in critical situations.
How We Built It
- Tech Stack: Open-source AI models, Python for AI processing and API calls, PHP for the web interface, and Firebase for database storage and real-time updates.
- Development Process: We focused on integrating AI-driven health insights with a responsive web interface, ensuring seamless interaction between users and MOM. API calls facilitate communication between the AI model, the web platform, and the database, enabling real-time medication validation, risk prediction, and dietary tracking.
Challenges We Ran Into
- Time Constraints: Had only half a day to build a working prototype.
- Balancing AI Guidance: Ensuring MOM provides non-alarming yet informative recommendations.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
- Developed a functional AI prototype that interacts with users and validates medications.
- Implemented personalized health tracking and risk prediction.
- Designed MOM to be user-friendly, informative, and reassuring, avoiding unnecessary panic while promoting proactive care.
What We Learned
- The critical role of real-time health insights in preventing medical harm.
- The importance of AI-driven personalization in healthcare solutions.
- How small, timely interventions can significantly improve patient safety.
