The Problem

The Coronavirus crisis has led organizations in every sector to adapt overnight to a challenging reality, which requires remote work and zero-time preparation.

Although the education world has been successfully implementing various tools for e-learning, many teachers lack sufficient tools and training to lead meaningful communication with their students and provide them with the emotional and educational support they need

The idea for developing MojiBoard came up during interviews we conducted with Israeli educators. They all shared a concern regarding their ability to engage with their students meaningfully and to bridge the physical distances with their students.

Teachers are looking for a digital alternative for the traditional "Mood Board" that they regularly use in their classrooms. It became clear that there is a genuine need for a technological solution that will allow them to do so

What it does

MojiBoard is an interactive web-based mood-board that helps educators to connect with their students from a distance. While Zoom and other online platforms focus on e-learning, MojiBoard addresses the emotional and social aspects of education. MojiBoard is a useful tool for educators to discuss, monitor and analyze their students' feelings

How I built it

On the teachers' page *Teachers can update students at any given moment by adding their names and photos into the platform *Automatically a unique URL is assigned to each student and is sent via SMS to each student *Teachers see their students' chosen mood filters in real-time *Teachers can reset the polling page to allow for a re-vote

On the students' page *Each student uses a unique URL that eliminates the need to identify for the system *Mood filters are places at the bottom of the page *Students see their classmates' chosen mood filters in real-time *The polling page resets once a day and allows for repeated voting

On the Teachers' analytics page *Teachers can segment date ranges and see students' mood filters per the entire classroom and individually per each and every student *Teachers receive an alert if a student systematically updates a negative mood *Teachers can share analytics with school guides and mental health figures

What I learned

*16% of the population in Europe consists of children ages 0-14 *In Europe alone there are more than 100,000 monthly Google Searches for the keywords "Educational Feelings Board" *According to our research, there us no online solution for this need

Educators *MojiBoard allows educators a fun and simple tool to engage with students *MojiBoard provides real-time insight into the students' attitude *MojiBoard's analytics allows online monitoring per students or per classroom *MojiBoard raises flags of chronicle unhappiness and can indicates of early stages of depression in real-time

Project's value after the crisis

MojiBoard is a great educational tool, not only in times of social distancing and Isolation.

In our vision we various populations using the platform as a way to gather emotional data and use it as a prediction of mental illnesses, depression etc. The tool is idle for populations that lack verbal skills - such as children, Special-Ed students, and elderly people, and we see it as an innovative instrument that allows speaking without words.

What's next for MojiBoard

On order to scale, the following steps are needed: PoC - real-time testing of the platform with various educators Language - translating the interface to as many languages as possible Scale - reaching out to as many educators as possible Moving offline - our solution should help educators and advisors in the classrooms, to better track and analyze students' feelings and alert for potential incidents of depression on time Integration - the platform could be useful to tier 2 educational teams such as school counselors, guidance counselors, psychologists etc. Collaborations - the platform should strive to form collaborations with welfare and child services, to identify early stages of depression in real-time and offer a solution.
