Inspiration

We all know the feeling: you sit down to work, open one tab "for a second," and an hour later you're deep in a video that has nothing to do with your assignment. Website blockers don't really fix this. They're dumb: they block YouTube even when you're watching a lecture, and they're easy to ignore. We wanted something that actually understands what you're doing, and that holds you accountable in a way that works for you, because different people respond to different kinds of motivation.

What it does

Moegotchi is a digital sidekick that lives in your browser. You tell it what you're working on, pick your sidekick's personality, and it keeps an eye on your tabs.

  • It understands context. Powered by the Gemini API, it checks whether the page you're on actually helps with your task. A lecture on the topic is fine, while an unrelated video isn't, even on the same website.
  • It reacts with personality. Your sidekick's mood changes with what you do. It's happy when you're locked in and gets sad (or annoyed) when you drift.
  • You choose the kind of push that works on you. Pick a cheerleader that rewards you, a tough-love type that roasts you and warns you before closing distracting tabs, a guilt-tripper, or a deadpan one that's just quietly disappointed. Every reaction is generated live by Gemini, not scripted.
  • You stay in control. Strict sidekicks give a countdown before closing a tab, with an "I need this tab!" button, and closed tabs can be restored in one click.

What's next for Moegotchi

  • Not just one look. The sidekick can be a pet-style companion, not a single character, so everyone can pick one they like.
