Inspiration

ModRadar was inspired by the challenges Reddit moderators face when managing large communities. Moderation queues often become overwhelming due to spam, duplicate reports, harassment, and high volumes of user activity. I wanted to build a tool that makes moderation faster, clearer, and less stressful.

What it does

ModRadar is an AI-assisted Reddit moderation dashboard designed to help moderators manage large and active communities more efficiently. It organizes moderation workflows by prioritizing high-risk reports, detecting spam, grouping duplicate reports, and providing a clean, structured control center for faster decision-making.

How I Built It

I started by designing the UI using an AI-powered frontend tool (v0), then refined it into a full dashboard-style application using React and Tailwind CSS. The goal was to create a realistic moderation control center with interactive components such as report cards, modals, and navigation systems.

I focused on building a clean frontend prototype that simulates real moderation workflows, including:

  • Report management dashboards
  • Notification systems
  • Sidebar navigation with multiple sections
  • Responsive mobile hamburger menu

Challenges Faced

One of the biggest challenges was ensuring that all UI components stayed functional and consistent while using AI-generated code. Some features initially broke during responsiveness updates, especially navigation and interactive elements.

Another challenge was balancing design with functionality under a tight deadline, while still making the project look polished and professional.

Accomplishments I’m proud of

I’m proud of building a fully interactive frontend prototype within a short timeframe, including:

  • A responsive moderation dashboard that works across desktop and mobile
  • Functional navigation system with multiple dashboard sections
  • Interactive report cards with modals and status updates
  • A notification and moderation activity system
  • A clean, modern UI that simulates a real-world moderation tool

I also successfully used AI-assisted tools to speed up development while still customizing the project into a cohesive product.

What I Learned

Through this project, I learned:

  • How to structure a full frontend dashboard application
  • How to use AI tools to speed up UI development
  • How state-based interactions simulate real application logic
  • The importance of responsive design for mobile and desktop users
  • How product thinking is just as important as coding

What’s next for ModRadar

In the future, I plan to improve ModRadar by:

  • Integrating real Reddit API data for live moderation
  • Adding more advanced AI-based spam and toxicity detection
  • Improving analytics for community behavior trends
  • Enhancing moderator collaboration features
  • Deploying it as a fully usable web application for real communities

Closing note

ModRadar started as a hackathon idea, but it represents a step toward making online community moderation more efficient, structured, and less overwhelming.
