Inspiration
When you are a streamer, you like to see your audience engaged in the chat, I always created several integrations with IFTTT so that the audience interacted while I played, but then I thought about making a game that the focus was really on playing with the viewer as your main objective.
What it does
The game is a Tower Defense that needs to receive turrets from the spectators, who use the channel points to deliver them to the streamer. There is a global scoreboard that generates a competition between the spectators so that they can compete with each other, and there is also the Machiavelli tower that serves to prank and make everything more fun.
How we built it
With Unity and C# code, Twitch API Integration and a lot of Coffee
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was the time, to be able to do all this after work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Releasing the game for a streamer to play with your audience and having the audience engaged and having fun from the start was the realization that all the hard work was worth it.
What we learned
Practically everything, in how to distribute tasks to some freelancers and generate scripts so that voice actors could act even without ever meeting, requesting art for designers, all remotely, just in the exchange of emails, was an bigest experience.
What's next for Modern Towers
For a studio that is being born later this year, from a country with a devalued currency, we want to overcome borders and make the game universal by hiring voice actors for English dialogues, at moment the dialogues are in Brazilian Portuguese, adding new phases to the game and a future release on steam.
