Our final project is a music player box where we use physical cards which will play specific songs upon being tapped to the box. Each card is an RFID card which we have mapped to songs on Spotify. The user can then adjust the volume, like the song, and toggle between normal playing mode and a “Guess the Game” mode.

The problem we were trying to solve is for when children and older people need a more tactile way to listen to music. Some people aren’t great with technology or are unable to navigate technology well, but that shouldn’t stop them from being able to listen to their favorite songs. Additionally, at gatherings the songs are typically all chosen by the device owner and attendees are not always able to suggest the songs they’d like to hear. Our project solves these problems by introducing physical cards, which are similar to music records in concept but much smaller, which are then simply tapped against a box which will trigger the song to play.

Our solution was successful and the user is allowed to control many features of Spotify using our project and play a “Guess the Song” game with the box. It is also scalable and customizable as any user could fork this project and choose a set of songs they like and have those be the cards and the songs that get played.
