Inspiration

Reddit moderators handle large amounts of spam, scams, abusive content, and repetitive moderation tasks every day. We wanted to build a tool that reduces moderator workload and helps moderators focus on the most important reports first instead of manually reviewing every post.

This inspired us to create Mod-Buddy — an AI-powered moderation assistant built for Reddit communities using Devvit.

What it does

Mod-Buddy helps moderators:

  • Detect suspicious or spam-like content
  • Prioritize high-risk posts using intelligent scoring
  • Review moderation queues more efficiently
  • Approve or remove posts quickly
  • Reduce manual moderation effort

The platform provides confidence scores and priority indicators so moderators can instantly understand which reports require immediate attention.

How we built it

We built Mod-Buddy using:

  • Devvit
  • React
  • TypeScript
  • Reddit APIs

The frontend was designed to provide a clean and moderator-friendly workflow, while the backend handles moderation data processing and scoring logic.

We focused heavily on:

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was designing a workflow that feels natural for moderators while still presenting useful AI-driven insights.

  • UI responsiveness and polish
  • prioritization logic for reports

Testing different moderator flows and improving usability was an important part of development.

We also gained valuable experience working collaboratively in a hackathon environment

Our goal is to make moderation faster, smarter, and less stressful for Reddit communities.
