Inspiration

My mom recently got into print-on-demand, and like a lot of new artists, she was super excited, until she hit the wall of having to prep her images for every single product. Every other day she’d ask me to resize something, fix the DPI, or help her figure out if the image would even look good on a tote bag or a mug. It was time-consuming, confusing, and frustrating for both of us. So I built MockFit Studio! Something that could make the whole process fast, visual, and beginner-friendly, without needing Photoshop or templates.

What it does

MockFit Studio turns a single uploaded image into perfectly formatted previews for multiple best-selling Printful products. It auto-resizes and converts the image to 300 DPI, suggests which products it works best on based on aspect ratio, and lets users reposition, scale, or stretch the image directly in the browser. The tool even offers helpful tips like “this image would look better on a tote with the background removed.”

How we built it

Built using the Bolt AI one-shot system, the app integrates the uploaded image, compares its dimensions with known Printful product specs (from a CSV file), and outputs styled previews, product suggestions, and optimized print files. The image can be manipulated live on a single UI screen — no tabs, no back-and-forth. It uses heuristics to recommend DPI scaling, show match % scores, and offer before/after downloads.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was communicating that this isn't just another mockup generator. It's about fixing the print file itself — DPI, placement, and aspect ratio — not just showing how it looks. Another hurdle was determining when to recommend background removal and where to link users to tools like Canva or Printful’s own remover.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-Created a user-friendly flow that artists of all skill levels can understand

-Built a system that handles product-specific sizing from real Printful data

-Allowed multiple previews and files to be exported with a single click

What we learned

The biggest insight was that most print-on-demand tools assume too much knowledge or expect users to upload 10+ versions of the same image. MockFit Studio cuts that down to one upload with smart formatting, saving massive time and confusion.
