Inspiration In India, disaster preparedness is often limited to paper guidelines and occasional drills. Students don’t get hands-on practice in reacting to earthquakes, fires, or floods. We wanted to solve this problem in an engaging way. That’s how Mocha was born—a gamified approach to disaster education.

What it does Mocha is a 3D open-world educational game where students live their daily campus life, but disasters strike randomly. Players must respond correctly—calling emergency services, rescuing others, or moving to safety. Correct actions earn points, wrong ones reduce scores. Teachers can track performance through a dashboard, making disaster preparedness measurable and fun.

How we built it We built Mocha in Unity with URP, creating a scalable prototype map with classrooms, houses, and outdoor areas. We integrated a smooth third-person controller, random event triggers, and scoring logic. A teacher dashboard tracks class performance.

Challenges we ran into Designing realistic disaster scenarios.

Optimizing graphics for performance on low hardware.

Ensuring character movement felt natural (no sliding/glitching).

Balancing “fun gameplay” with “serious education.”

Accomplishments that we're proud of Built a working 3D prototype with smooth movement and random disasters.

Created a gamified scoring system tied to real-life safety protocols.

Designed a teacher dashboard for monitoring class preparedness.

What we learned How to balance education and entertainment in game design.

Importance of teamwork, dividing roles effectively.

Technical skills: Unity URP, character controller setup, level design, and gamification principles.

What's next for Mocha Game Expanding disasters (tsunami, chemical leaks, cyber emergencies).

Adding multiplayer support for classroom-scale drills.

Partnering with schools/NDMA to align with real disaster management guidelines.

VR integration for even more immersive disaster training.
