Inspiration
Climate change is due to high concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere.
Extreme climate events around the world have cause negative impact in the economy, society and biodiversity.
15% of all GHG emissions come from the transport sector..!
The world has + 1.6 Billion motor vehicles emitting CO2 to the atmosphere with no compensation.
Car fleets must compensate for their emissions in order to help minimize extreme climate events!
What it does
A 3-in-1 App that mesures in realtime, via Google Maps, the distance travelled (Km), the CO2 emitted by each vehicle, and the carbon off-set: number of trees to plant, hectares of forest to conserve and carbon credit to acquire.
How we built it
Ideation in 2017 - 2021; PoC in 2022; MVP in 2023, and TRL7 in 2024.
After selected to get a grant from the Carlos Chagas Filho Foundation for Research of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ) several off-line laboratories with motorcar have been developed in order to establish the calculations of CO2 emissions and the carbon offset parameters (E.g. Trees to plant, forest to protect and carbon credits).
After the first prototype of the Mobility C3 App was developed, several on-line laboratories with motor vehicles have been developed to asses the calculations and to harmonize the use of Google Maps database in the App.
Challenges we ran into
It takes a lot of time and effort to find THE architects and IT programers to develop an App. 20 IT developers have been interviewed before finding the right team of developers.
In 2022 we almost closed the Mobility C3 project due to the lack of a reliable IT team to develop the App.
The communication with the IT team not always was clear. The adjustments required to use the Google Maps API to track monitored vehicles was also a challenge. Several laboratórios with motor vehicles in urban and remote areas of Brazil was necessary to correct erros the the App presented.
Another challenge is going from the scientific research mind set to a business mind-set because the mind of a scientist is totally different from the mind os a commercial entrepreneur. One thing is to develop a technology from scratch and the other thing is to commercialize this technology in the market. It is dealing with totally diferente worlds.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We developed a technology that is more precise and efficient than the Green House Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) that is commonly used by competitors in the carbon market.
We use a technology approved by the United Nations in 2014.
Our solution is designed for different type of vehicles such as cars, vans and trucks, among others.
Our Mobility C3 App tech is precise and optimizes operations and saves time for businesses, eliminating the need for manual data entry and analysis.
Our platform ensures ESG compliance saving money by avoiding potential fines and optimising operations.
What we learned
That there is an enormous gap (tabu) to monitor the carbon emission of motor vehicles around the world.
The majority of motor vehicles do not compensate for their CO2 emissions.
That Google Maps is a fundamental tool for the CO2 monitoring of motor vehicles because it can track in realtime the distance travelled (Km) in order to calculate CO2 emissions.
Without the support from the Carlos Chagas Filho Foundation for Research of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ) it would have not been possible to develop the Mobility C3 App.
What's next for MOBILITY C3
As an official startup we are now seeking to offer CO2 precise vehicle monitoring services in the carbon market. We are weaving partnerships with several carbon compensations companies using the B2B2B and B2B commercial models.
A partnership with Google Maps would be a plus in order to help gather vehicle owners to monitor CO2 emissions and to fundamentally off-set carbon emissions.
