Inspiration

Site visits are a necessary part of designing solar. However, I have seen most site evaluations still happening using paper forms. These are easy to lose and misfile, which cost time and affect the accuracy of a quote and can spell the difference between a go and no-go in pursuing a project. Further, badly handwitten notes can also cause delays or mistakes. Other staff members then must enter in this data an additional time or multiple additional times in order to perform other job functions (sales, design, interconnection, or project management.)

This data needs to be collected consistently and accurately with minimal data entry duplication. More construction staff are onsite with smart mobile devices than ever before. Why not leverage that?

How it works

This simple residential solar PV site visit form will guide you through collecting the critical information necessary to assess a site for a code compliant and safe design and interconnection.

Challenges I ran into

Many challenges were specifically around learning how to use Canvas- pushing new versions and their testing/QA procedures.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I partnered successfully with Solar Site Design to leverage their API to design services.

What I learned

A form replacement tool cannot be made into an immersive, visual, and prescriptive site evaluation experience.

What's next for Mobile Site Visit Form

I'd like to see it become a full suite of tools for a one-stop close experience. From evaluation to design to financing to signature and payment capturing.
