Inspiration
MobiHouse was inspired by a simple but painful reality in Nigeria: finding a home is stressful, risky, and built on low trust. Renters regularly face ghost agents, fake houses, repeated inspections, and the fear of losing large upfront rent payments with no protection.
What stood out was that this wasn’t just bad behavior—it was a systemic failure. People are expected to pay one to two years’ rent upfront without verification, escrow, or accountability. The real problem wasn’t housing supply; it was the absence of a trusted system.
I started MobiHouse by asking:
What if renting a home felt as safe as making a secure online transaction?
What it does
MobiHouse is a trust-first real estate platform that helps people find verified homes without stress.
It solves three major problems in Nigerian real estate:
- Ghost agents → eliminated through physical verification
- Fake houses → prevented by on-ground inspections
- Risky payments → reduced with escrow-style rent protection
In simple terms, MobiHouse ensures that the house is real, the agent is accountable, and the renter’s money is protected.
How we built it
MobiHouse was designed from the ground up around trust.
- 100% Verified Listings: Every property is physically inspected by a distributed Scout network before going live.
- Smart Vault (Escrow): Rent payments are held securely until the renter gets the keys.
- Scout & Earn Model: Community members can submit street-level listings and earn rewards, allowing verification to scale.
- Mobile-First Experience: Built for how users in Nigeria actually access the internet.
Instead of assuming trust, the system enforces it at each step.

Challenges we ran into
Building MobiHouse came with several challenges:
- Coordinating offline inspections with an online platform
- Dealing with inconsistent and unstructured real estate data
- Designing escrow flows that are secure but still affordable
- Convincing users that a safer alternative to the status quo can exist
- Educating the market before users experience fraud
Each challenge highlighted how difficult—but necessary—it is to build trust infrastructure.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Designing a trust protocol tailored to Nigerian real estate realities
- Creating a community-powered scout model instead of relying solely on agents
- Building a clear solution to three of the biggest pain points in renting
- Translating a complex offline problem into a structured digital system
What we learned
Through building MobiHouse, we learned that:
- Listings without verification increase fraud
- Payments are the highest-risk moment in renting
- Trust must be built into the product, not added later
- Community incentives can scale verification faster than centralized teams
What's next for MobiHouse
Next, MobiHouse will:
- Expand verified listings across more cities
- Strengthen the Scout network and verification tooling
- Improve Smart Vault with more flexible payment options
- Partner with developers, landlords, and institutions
- Lay the foundation to become the trust layer for housing in Africa
MobiHouse exists so people can find a home—without the stress.
