## Inspiration
AI agents are increasingly autonomous—booking flights, making purchases, executing trades. But how do you safely give an AI agent access to money? Traditional approaches either give full access (dangerous) or require human approval for every transaction (defeats the purpose).
We asked: What if agents could pay for things, but only within policy constraints, with cryptographic guarantees that they got what they paid for?
## What it does
MNEE AgentPay Kit is an escrow payment system for AI agents that provides:
- Policy-gated spending: Agents operate within predefined budgets, vendor allowlists, and rate limits
- Pay-for-encrypted-output: Providers deliver encrypted results; payment only releases when the decryption key is revealed on-chain
- Gasless transactions: Agents sign; relayers pay gas
- Complete audit trails: Every quote, commitment, and fulfillment is recorded on-chain for post-hoc verification
## How we built it
- Smart Contracts (Solidity/Foundry): AgentPayVault handles escrow, policy enforcement, and atomic commit-reveal settlement
- TypeScript SDK: EIP-712 typed signatures, encryption utilities, and client abstractions
- Provider Service: Simulates vendors offering quotes and encrypted deliverables
- Relayer Service: Submits gasless transactions on behalf of agents
- Next.js Frontend: Judge Mode for live demos, Proof Mode for replaying recorded executions
## Challenges
- Designing atomic commit-reveal that's fair to both parties
- EIP-712 signature validation across multiple signing contexts
- Building a demo that works without requiring users to connect wallets or hold ETH
## What we learned
Escrow patterns for AI agents need different trust assumptions than human escrow—agents can't "dispute" subjectively, so cryptographic commitments become essential.
