Inspiration
We gained inspiration from the Google Solar Project and wanted to make a similar tool, but specifically for city planners!
What it does
Solar SD allows city planners to easily simulate solar panel installations in their cities and see how it would affect their energy generation and net carbon footprint.
How we built it
We built it with Predix UI components, a Go REST API, and a Java REST API. The Backend APIs perform various computations for the city planners to utilize. We used various data sources from the city of San Diego and California.
Challenges we ran into
Most challenges we ran into were related to finding relevant data.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of building a working prototype that will help illustrate how city planners can run their cities more efficiently and eco-friendly through a simple application on Predix.
What we learned
We learned the importance of finding relevant data first and building an application on top of that plentiful data.
What's next for mm17
We're excited to present our application, receive feedback, and attend the rest of the conference!
