We were inspired by new tools like Calendly that we have actually come to use regularly. We wish to build our own portfolio based on this template.
What it does
The portfolio is a platform to showcase our personal projects and experiment with new technologies. We worked on new issues to add a responsive navigation bar and resume/cv section. Finally, we were recently introduced to calendly, which is a hub for scheduling meetings professionally and efficiently, eliminating the hassle of back and forth emails. So we thought of incorporating a feature that allows the viewer to directly book a meeting as per the convenience of both parties.
How we built it
We collaborated over a forked repo of the project and used Git and GitHub to maintain the workflow. We used Ruby, HTML, and CSS to build our components and integrate them within the project.
Challenges we ran into
Neither of us has worked on Ruby before which was the biggest hurdle for us. Secondly, setting up the repo on Windows came with its own hurdles. After committing our Pull Requests once, we faced an issue where all our PRs got messed up due to which we had to redo all the issues from scratch. However, we overcame these hurdles and submitted all pull requests for all 3 of our issues.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the fact that in spite of facing so many hurdles in the last stage of our issues, we managed to complete our project in time.
What we learned
We learned a lot of new things from this hackathon
- including how to review and comment each other's code
- collaborating over a work flow
- adding components to a Ruby project
What's next for MLH Pre-Fellowship Portfolio
In the future, we plan to integrate features to make the portfolio more interactive.
