Inspiration

I built this application thinking about the pandemic and how it has distanced people. I have not met my friends from past 9 months and haven't met my Family members too. It has become difficult for many people, So I decided to build a chat app, where you can chat with people and even talk with them over Video Call.

What it does

This is a chat application, where you will be able to talk to people in groups. Infact you can add them in a video call together, with no limitation of people added. It is easy and more convinent to log into. Every time you click on the video calling icon, it will prompt you to a new room(every time you click on it, a new room is created), where you can invite yours friends and family by just sharing the link. For Authentication, you just need to login using your Google Account.

How I built it

I built it using React JS, Redux, Node.js, Firebase and Material UI.

Challenges I ran into

The biggest challenge that I faced was dynamically adding the profile photo from google. Anyways I was able to fix it, thanks to some tutorials online :)

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud of the whole build, I'm happy that I built it in such a short time period

What I learned

I learnt how to work on Redux state

What's next for MLH Messenger

Probably I'm going to use it with my friends and family for now :)
