Data Science and Machine Learning is doing wonders to the world. The main inspiration of the problem was provided during the workshop hosted and organised by IIT Delhi (AIMLC), which is indeed an ambitious and an initiative towards development in the above mentioned fields. The problem statement concerns to the idea of Optical Character Recognition, abbreviated as OCR.
The algorithm performs optical character recognition of the handwritten mathematical expressions stratifying them into categories like postfix, infix and prefix, thereby building an ML model to predict the expression type and consequently the value of the handwritten expressions.
We transformed the .jpg files to .pkl files, using the package pickle. Then we framed (tested and trained) the model using the package torch.
Being the students of statistics, wee faced innumerable challenges while structuring the solution of the posed problem, but it is always fun to learn.
