ML for Food Deserts across VA

Inspiration

Rich Nguyen, my professor, has inspired me to try my hand at machine learning. I hope to gain experience during this hackathon.

What it does

I had planned to combine a traffic dataset with a food access and grocery store location dataset; however, as a first timer mistake, I bit off more than I could chew.

How we built it

I first looked for applicable data sets, and then I started to prepare and clean them. After spending too much time trying to understand the datasets and their attributes, I ran out of time to create the actual model.

Challenges we ran into

I struggled with time management most of all.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I was most proud of signing up and trying out this hackathon as it was all new to me.

What's next for ML for Food Deserts across VA

I plan to use this work as a starter for my group project in my ML class. I am excited to finish the work that I have started with my group to support the endeavor
