Inspiration

Our goal was to create a productivity tool that could appeal to the needs of everyone. For many budgeting properly can be a tall task and everyone has their own reasons for it. Multiple small payments over a long period of time can quickly add up to large sums of money and we wanted a way for people to keep track of them.

What it does

The project keeps track of different purchases you make and allows you to categorize them with cash limits that you want to put on yourself to stop overspending and to help with keeping track of any other expenses.

How we built it

We build a web page with an Express.js backend and a react front end.

Challenges we ran into

Understanding how to use a third party API that we had to drop for time and trying to incorporate webpage styling that was too ambitious for this project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are surprised that we were able to make a complete project in such short of time with just the two of us. The idea of what the design and the layout of the page gives us a good starting point to continue after this weekend.

What we learned

We learned how to better manage our time and how to plan out the scope of a project given its time frame. We researched into the strict requirements of creating applications that can connect to a users bank account and we were able to explore different webpage stylings that were unfamiliar to us.

What's next for Mixn

we want to polish our code and add more style to the front page. We did also look into connecting it to an already existing banking API call Plaid to pull real user data from user bank accounts. An ideal platform to use this would be to create a supporting mobile app. This way users can get real time updates about their spending through their phone's notifications right after they make a purchase.
