Inspiration
Everyone in our group grew up with Minecraft, and we agreed that we all learned very much from video games. That’s when we decided to make a game to teach kids vital information that will be used in life.
What it does
Mix ‘n Match is a matching game for kids to learn how to match shapes. It acts as flashcards that disappear after a certain amount of time and helps kids memorize shapes.
How we built it
We used Java on replit to create the logic for the game, and JavaFX to make the GUI show the actual matching of the questions and answers.
Challenges we ran into
JavaFX was a new library for many of us and we had to search up tutorials and cheat sheets to help us work it out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have finished on time and have a good-looking title screen and interface that we drew ourselves. We are also proud to have 3 different difficulties for each level to have the optimal playing experience for all skill levels.
What we learned
We learned to sharpen our Java skills and also learn the new library of JavaFX.
What's next for Mix n' Match
We hope to expand on our category level in the future for even bigger kids and have more topics to teach people like math and vocabulary.
