Inspiration
Our journey kicked off at the XR Hack 2024 in Cologne, where we developed a proof of concept that lets users learn cocktail-making in XR, and we won first prize in the Meta Hobbies and Skills category. We made our intent and ideas public on our website, got busy with life priorities, and a year later, another team released a similar app on Meta Quest mixology.io. However, we wanted to make learning mixology social, fun, immersive, and accessible for everyone. So, We restarted and redesigned it in November 2025 as a mobile-first experience (as the existing users are on mobile),
Our vision is a social lifestyle app that is engaging, introduces different global drink cultures and fun party games.
What it does
Mix Drink Game is a cross-platform multiplayer game (VR + mobile) where players compete or collaborate to make cocktails in fun, stylised bar environments. Players can: Follow real cocktail recipes Use virtual tools (jigger, shaker, muddler, etc.) Race friends to mix the perfect drink Explore different themed bars Learn about drink origins, culture, and technique It’s fast, social, educational, and endlessly entertaining.
How we built it
We built Mix Drink Game using: Unity game engine for VR and mobile compatibility Photon Fusion 2 multiplayer for cross-platform play Custom stylised 3D/2D art for mascots and environments (in development) Recipe logic & scoring system for accuracy and technique Physics interactions (pouring, shaking, slicing) (in development ) Simple UI/UX optimised for both VR controllers and touchscreen input
Challenges we ran into
Synchronising VR and mobile players reliably, while keeping latency and physics interactions consistent, and maintaining scale and proportions, was a major challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Mobile first taps/swipes mimic real mixology steps, as that's where the users are. Mobile version (Android only) can be accessed here link Players learn how to make real drinks through fun, interactive gameplay. It’s engaging, social, and easy
What we learned
This project taught us: How to build cross-platform multiplayer efficiently How to design intuitive VR/mobile hybrid interactions The importance of iterative UX design The value of a strong character identity for marketing How game mechanics can be used for learning and cultural exploration How to plan technical pipelines for scaling (AI suggestions, recipe expansions, branded drinks)
What's next for Mix Drink Game
We have plans to expand the library to over 200 cocktails, mocktails, and non-alcoholic creations, each with step-by-step guidance and cultural context. We plan to introduce monetisation in a way that supports replayability, social engagement, and learning. Since the game is highly replayable and works across many social settings, we can offer optional subscriptions, cosmetic skins, new themed bars, and branded drink packs. The educational value also creates opportunities for partnerships with beverage brands and training platforms, ensuring sustainable revenue while keeping the core experience accessible and fun. Quest store & mobile store release A fully polished version for public launch.
We are a small, passionate team currently building this project while bootstrapping alongside full-time jobs. We’re seeking support and funding to accelerate development and bring the full vision to life. Despite limited resources, we are committed to delivering a polished, meaningful experience driven by user feedback, community needs, and clear market analysis. Our goal is to release a game that is fun, educational, socially engaging, and shaped collaboratively with its audience.
Please stay in touch and reach out if you'd like to support the project or receive updates. We welcome collaborators, partners, and early community members who want to help shape the future of Mix Drink Game. Open this link and join the Google Group link
