Inspiration
Inspired by the MIT Reuse mailing list, which is rather chaotic and unorganized.
What it does
- Allows users to create public listings of items they are giving away
- Allows users to mark items as taken
- Displays all available listings on a map
- Auto archives old listings
- Looks good on all screens
How we built it
- Django for the backend
- Bulma CSS framework for the frontend
- Google Maps API
- Added custom JavaScript to allow users to pick a location using GMaps
Challenges we ran into
- Limiting the scope of the project
- Learning how to use the GMaps API
- Falling asleep after drinking too much coffee
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Building a working project
- Working as a team
- Sleeping
What we learned
- Hacking under time-pressure
What's next for MIT Reuse
- Adding pictures to listings
- Logging in using Athena kerberos
- Integration with the MIT Reuse mailing list
