Inspiration
Serving as a priest and musician at Saint Michael Kalibo (ICCEC), I witnessed fragmented communication between missionaries, leaders, and supporters. I dreamed of a unified, real-time platform where prayer requests, mission updates, and team coordination live side by side.
What it does
- Connects missionaries, leaders & supporters via a live feed
- Enables prayer request sharing, comments, and “urgent” badges
- Maps active missions with geolocation and target-amount indicators
- Offers free trials and subscription tiers (Leader Pro) with feature limits
How we built it
- Frontend: React Native & Expo Router, Tailwind-style UI, Reanimated for animations
- Backend: Supabase Auth, Postgres (missions, posts, comments, trials), Storage for media, real-time subscriptions
- Subscriptions: RevenueCat for in-app purchases, EAS Build with custom dev client to exit Preview API Mode
- Deployment: Netlify for web landing page, EAS Build for production binaries, GitHub+Bolt.new CI/CD
Challenges we ran into
- No prior mobile experience—Expo Go’s Preview Mode and native modules required custom dev builds
- Debugging Supabase relationships (foreign key errors between trial_usage & trial_features)
- Token limits while iterating trial logic and real-time subscriptions
- RevenueCat configuration and Android/iOS API key setup
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Fully functional, production-ready mobile app with live mission map and feed
- Integrated mission usage limits and premium subscriptions
- Automated GitHub ↔ Bolt.new workflow for instant code feedback
- Launched web landing page at https://www.missionlinker.com
What we learned
- Mastered Expo custom dev clients to leverage native modules outside Expo Go
- Built real-time features with Supabase subscriptions for instant updates
- Implemented robust trial & subscription flows using RevenueCat
- Gained confidence in React Native, Reanimated, and cross-platform best practices
What's next for MissionLinker
- Expand mission categories and filter options (region, status, funding goals)
- Enable in-app donations & integrated payment flows
- Enhance analytics dashboard for leaders (impact metrics, engagement trends)
- Localize into multiple languages and onboard ICCEC dioceses worldwide
