Inspiration

We got inspiration from mythologies such as Greek and other tales of the past. We were also inspired by general classical literature. Additionally we used the theme attraction in describing "The Circus & Attractions".

What it does

The game Mission: Survive is about a character name Desdemona and her friends journey to "The Circus & Attractions". In this post apocalypse world "The Circus & Attractions" is known to be the first safe place from zorens (zombie+siren) and "The Circus & Attractions" have been sending out cruise ship all over the world to rescue survivors. In this game players will have to experienced two days & two nights of terror and mystery to make it to "The Circus & Attractions".

How we built it

We built it using Godot and the character art was drawn using Pixilart and ibisPaint (mobile). We also used Google docs to organized ourselves and write the story line script. We mainly communicated on Discord to make sure we were all on the same page! The background music was all made on GarageBand and we're surprised we did not go crazy, having to listen to the tracks so many times.

Challenges we ran into

Scene Manager and Dialogue Manager weren't working at some point, resulting in us having to re-install them again (genuinely took so long to fix them). The treehouse scene's interactive objects were also giving us a hard time due to problems with the Dialogue Manager and merging on Github.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting the scene manager and dialogue manager to work felt heavenly. No words can describe how joyous we felt. The character drawings were nice as well. Getting the game to work was great too :)

What we learned

We learned game development is definitely not for the weak. (Drawing animations •̩̩̩̩ᯅ•̩̩̩ ) We also learned more on better communications, since some of us are from different time zones so communication ends up being really important. Furthermore our grasp on game development had definitely improved, such as game scenes and mechanics. Since for most of us, it was our first time trying out game development and this experience had significantly impacted our knowledge on it, as well as general coding. Special thanks to Brackeys, GDQuest, and Nathan Hoad on Youtube for helping guide us through these tough times!!

What's next for Mission: Survive

Originally we wanted to add a murder mystery concept but quickly realized we didn't have enough time. After this game jam, we may remake it to a murder mystery :)
