Inspiration
Our inspiration came from our interest in software development and aerospace engineering. One of our team members brought experience from Florida Rocket Lab, which inspired us to explore rocket telemetry. We wanted to use Tiger Data to build something that combined these interests.
What it does
MissionPulse is a rocket flight telemetry simulation platform that generates data such as altitude, velocity, acceleration, temperature, and pressure. Our interactive dashboard allows users to visualize this data and track different flight phases.
How we built it
We used Python to develop a physics-based rocket simulator and FastAPI to handle telemetry data. We connected our backend to PostgreSQL hosted on Tiger Cloud and used TimescaleDB hypertables and time_bucket() to store and analyze time-series data. Finally, we used React and TypeScript to build our interactive dashboard.
Challenges we ran into
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we built a working full stack application in such a short amount of time. Seeing our simulator generate telemetry and store it in Tiger Cloud to display the results through our dashboard was one of the most rewarding parts of the hackathon.
What we learned
We learned how to work with time series databases, develop APIs using FastAPI, and connect a Python backend to a React frontend. We also gained experience debugging real problems, collaborating as a team, and learning new technologies under pressure.
What's next for Mission Pulse
We want to continue developing MissionPulse by integrating real sensor data and implement anomaly detection. We also want to explore more of TimescaleDB's features to improve how we can analyze telemetry.
