Inspiration

We were inspired by all the great budgeting tools out there, and by games like Minecraft and numerous RPGs. We decided to mix the adventure of fantasy games with the satisfaction of getting your money in order.

What it does

Wealth Wizards is an all-in-one budgeting tool that helps you manage your spending while completing "quests". These could be as simple as not going over your spending limit, or more complicated like not eating out for a week! It also allows you to team up with your friends, and encourage each other to complete more quests by competing on a party leaderboard (while keeping your financial details private).

How we built it

We built the app with Expo and React Native, and a backend built on Hono and Postgres.

Challenges we ran into

No one in the team had ever used React Native before, so there was a large learning curve as we all learned the quirks of mobile app development.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are super proud of the visual design for the pages. We think it invokes a retro feel that inspires you to conquer your finances like you conquer the bosses of classic RPGs.

What we learned

We learned the importance of prioritization when building an MVP, and how different mobile app development can be compared to standard web development.

What's next for Wealth Wizards

We plan to integrate with machine learning to allow you to scan itemized receipts, letting you track spending down to the individual item. We also want to add a global leaderboard, and add dynamic minigames powered by LLMs to help learn new financial skills and apply those in a realistic environment. We also want to add more customization options powered by leveling up!
