Inspiration
A very popular TV show that airs every year for one month actually made us realize about this problem. They show these children that are missing and are with a welfare foundation that take care of them. They show them on TV so that someone who knows them see them and contact to get them to their parents. We realized that this problem is very intense and it needs to be addressed in a better way. We came up with the idea of Mising for the sole purpose to help the people that are is such a difficult situation. Together the people can help each other we just created a platform that uses the latest technology to help them help each other. A WSJ report of 2012 shows that over 8 million children go missing every year so we know that this app will be able to help a lot of people.
What it does
Mising uses Artificial Intelligence to find people that go missing. Suppose you are in a mall and suddenly you notice that you can't find your kid. What would you do, you just upload a photo on the app and wait for someone to find the kid and upload a photo as well, as soon as they upload the photo you will be notified that your kid has been found and you can contact the person that has found you kid. Go meet them and have your kid back.
How we built it
We built it with tools like flutter and dart to develop the app and for the deployment of the AI model we used Google Cloud Platform and flask and of course pytorch for face detection.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was to deploy the Machine learning pipeline to production on GCP but it was the best feeling when it was up and running for the first time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we've built something that will actually help people with something closest to their hearts: their children.
What we learned
We learned how much we can help if we can use technology and software in the right way. On the technical side we learned about app development and software development.
What's next for Mising
We hope to build it into a startup and present it to the whole world. This is a problem that anyone can face so every person should have access to this piece of technology. We believe this hackathon is the best opportunity for us to get started.
