Inspiration
We all have friends who really love cats, and thought a desktop cat would be a simple but effective way to keep people's spirits up.
What it does
It acts cute on your desktop, sleeping and waking up, wagging its tail etcetera. Occasionally Mishookoo will make cute and motivating comments to encourage self-care and improve mood.
How we built it
We used an online tutorial and then went off and modified it to use our art assets which we also created ourselves and added speaking functionality where it reads off a text file populated with lines for it to say.
Challenges we ran into
The tutorial really did not work well and wasn't well explained so we essentially had to reverse engineer it and rewrite it to suit our specific implementation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It's cute, swaps animations smoothly, and is a unique but also retro idea.
What we learned
That python can be surprisingly painful.
What's next for Mishookoo | DeskCat
If we can get people to use it we'll try and get it to run a little smoother, add more lines and polish the art. Maybe expand functionality.
