Inspiration
We decided to accept the MiraMaxims challenge, in order to help people with rare diseases feel less alone and more supported by getting to know people around them with a similar situation.
What it does
After you log in, pins appear on the map. Each pin represents a person with a rare disease. By knowing that you can feel included and more supported by knowing there is people near with similar conditions to you.
How we built it
We primarily built a server in one of our computers. We later programmed the log in and register pages, and used the api of google to show the map. All that was put together in the html document. We used python to implement the functions to interact with the database, and used DBiever to create it.
Challenges we ran into
While trying to display the name on the map, we encountered problems using the quotes, because after converting it to html, it did not parse like we expected.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We used the knowledge we learned in our bachelor degree in a real project, and reviewed things we did not use that often.
What we learned
Better usage of databases and server administration.
What's next for MiraMaxims
We would like to implement a chat, and maybe a profile display for people to interact with each other and create a support community.
