Inspiration
While caring for my female leopard gecko "Kongi", I found daily record-keeping, feeding, and environment monitoring quite cumbersome. I wanted to build an AI-powered app to make reptile care easier, especially for beginners.
What it does
Mirage Gecko is an AI-based management app for leopard geckos. It allows easy logging of feeding, shedding, and health records, analyzes uploaded photos for health insights, sends reminders via Telegram, and automatically generates growth reports.
How we built it
Built with React for the frontend, n8n workflows, OpenAI Codex / GPT for AI features, and Telegram Bot integration. Added Ollama as a local fallback to run smoothly on low-spec Windows PCs.
Challenges we ran into
Managing memory on a low-spec PC, improving AI accuracy for animal photo analysis, and designing a simple UI suitable for non-technical users.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully implemented Telegram voice/text logging and AI health analysis using real data from my own gecko. Made it practical and beginner-friendly.
What we learned
The importance of prompt engineering and how AI can become a real helper in everyday pet care. Also learned that even low-end hardware can support useful AI applications.
What's next for mirage
IoT temperature/humidity sensor integration, multi-gecko support, and releasing a mobile app version.
