Building with bricks is a simple joy for most children — searching through a pile, snapping pieces together, and proudly showing off their colorful designs. However, for children and adults with visual impairments, this experience is often closed off.

MIRA seeks to change that.

In Spanish, “mira” means “look” or “see” — a fitting name for a device that makes visual play accessible through touch and sound.

As an acronym, MIRA stands for Mosaic Interactive Recognition Assistant, reflecting its role as a smart, assistive system that guides users step by step.

We want to make brick-building accessible and inclusive, empowering users to create, explore, and share in a universal form of play that is often visually dependent.
