🌙 Mira Diaries

✨ Inspiration

Mira Diaries was inspired by a simple but frustrating reality , teenagers feel a lot, but don’t always have a space that feels right to express it.

Journaling is often recommended, but in practice, it can feel time-consuming, inconsistent, and sometimes even emotionally exhausting. Writing everything down isn’t always easy, and not everyone connects with words alone.

I started questioning:

What if journaling didn’t feel like a task? What if emotions could be seen, not just written?

That thought became the foundation of Mira Diaries , a space that feels less like a tool, and more like something that understands you.

💡 What it does

To conceptualize emotional growth, Mira Diaries follows a simple idea:

This cycle forms the core experience of Mira Diaries.

Mira Diaries is a reimagined journaling experience that makes emotional expression more intuitive, visual, and personal.

🌸 Core Features

  • Track moods through simple, relatable options
  • Express thoughts through typing or voice journaling
  • Grow an Emotional Garden, where each entry plants a seed that blooms into a flower

Over time, emotions become visible , making reflection easier and more meaningful.

🌙 Extended Experience

  • Cultural Time Capsule to store meaningful memories
  • Cultural Garden reflecting emotional patterns across experiences
  • Cultural Calendar for gentle reminders of important days

Instead of just storing thoughts, Mira Diaries helps users reconnect with them over time.

🛠️ How we built it

Mira Diaries was designed as a UI/UX concept using Canva, with a strong focus on emotional design and visual storytelling.

Key design choices included:

  • A doodle-style character, Mira, to create a human and relatable experience
  • A color-coded emotion system, mapping moods to flowers
  • A minimal, soft interface to maintain a safe and non-overwhelming space

The goal was not complexity, but clarity , designing something users would actually return to.

⚡ Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was resisting the urge to add more features.

At many points, it felt like the project needed “something more,” but I realized that adding complexity would reduce clarity.

The real challenge was learning to refine instead of expand.

Another challenge was translating abstract emotions into visuals. Ensuring that each mood, color, and interaction felt intuitive required multiple iterations.

Working individually also meant balancing design, storytelling, and structure . which pushed me to make more intentional decisions.

🏆 Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  • Creating a cohesive emotional experience, not just isolated features
  • Designing a system where emotions are visualized and grown over time
  • Connecting daily feelings with long-term memory and identity
  • Building a strong, consistent identity through Mira as a character

Most importantly, Mira Diaries feels like something users could genuinely connect with.

🌱 What we learned

This project reinforced that good design is not about adding more , it’s about making meaningful choices.

  • Emotional design builds stronger user connection
  • Simplicity enhances clarity and usability
  • Visual storytelling makes abstract ideas more tangible

I also learned to trust my ideas and refine them, instead of constantly trying to expand them.

🚀 What's next for Mira Diaries

Future directions for Mira Diaries include:

  1. Personalized emotional insights based on user patterns
  2. Deeper sensory integration (such as sound) for a more immersive experience
  3. Expanding cultural features to be more globally inclusive

Ultimately, the goal is to evolve Mira Diaries into a space that not only helps users express themselves — but helps them feel understood.
